Unipolar world system failed: Belarus FM

Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergey Martynov said here on Tuesday that the unipolar system of the world has eemingly failed.

He made the remark in his address to the 15th meeting of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) foreign ministers which started on Tuesday morning with a speech by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Criticizing those who believed NAM has lost its credit, Martynov urged the 118-member body to play a more active role in solving major regional and international problems.

"The NAM member states should actively try to remove unilateral system through unity and solidarity," Martynov said, adding that under a multipolar system, world would experience peace and happiness and would eradicate poverty, terrorism and illiteracy.

The NAM member states consider themselves not formally aligned in favor or against any major power bloc.

During the two-day gathering, the NAM member states, especially its founders and influential members such as Iran, are determined to discuss ways and strategies to revitalize the body and upgrade its capacity.
