Belarus police find second bomb after concert blast

Police in Belarus have found a second bomb after last night's explosion at a concert attended by the country's president. Around 50 people were wounded, some seriously.

President Alexander Lukashenko was not far from the blast but suffered no injury, according to his spokesman. The same official said the home-made bomb was likely the work of hooligans.

The concert was to mark a double celebration - the independence of Belarus from the Soviet Union and the liberation of the capital, Minsk, after World War II.

Lukashenko's spokesman said the attack was not an attempt to assassinate the president as the devices were planted in the crowd. The second device found last night did not detonate.

Lukashenko has rejected accusations of human rights offences by the West and has called legislative elections in September. Currently the opposition has no seats in parliament.
