Belarusian ambassador ends diplomatic mission in Moldova

Chisinau, 2 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Vladimir Voronin today met outgoing Belarusian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova Vasiliy Sakovich, the presidential press service has said.

The president praised the fruitful diplomatic activity which Vasiliy Sakovich has carried out in Moldova for ten years. Voronin thanked the diplomat for his substantial contribution to developing the Moldovan-Belarusian friendship and cooperation relations. Vladimir Voronin also highlighted the boosting of the bilateral dialogue in different areas on this period, as well as the creation of a solid juridical framework which includes about 100 bilateral agreements and covers the entire spectrum of collaboration. The head of state also appreciated the positive dynamic of the economic changes recorded between the two countries over the last years, as well as the fact that Belarus is among Moldova's top trade partners.

The president emphasized the Belarusian side's support to set up technological stations of machines, as well as the cooperation ties established in the agricultural field on the whole. The head of state stressed the need to turn to account the present potential, especially as regards the increase in the exports of Moldovan goods, such as fruits, vegetables and wines, to the Belarusian market. The president also expressed Moldova's interest in wooing Belarusian specialists to implement projects of modernization of the roads' infrastructure in Moldova.

To consolidate the Moldovan-Belarusian economic relations, the president underlined the importance to hold the 12th meeting of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation in 2009, as well as a meeting of business people from Moldova and Belarus. The head of state also stressed the need to sign, by late 2009, a programme of economic collaboration between Moldova and Belarus for 2010-2013.

The president expressed confidence that the relations established in different fields over the last ten years with the contribution of Vasiliy Sakovich will serve as a solid basis for further development and diversification of the Moldovan-Belarusian multidimensional cooperation. Vladimir Voronin said that Vasiliy Sakovich has been earlier awarded the Order of Honour for substantial contribution to the development of the friendship and cooperation ties between Moldova and Belarus.

For his part, the Belarusian diplomat thanked the head of state for the support given during all these years. Sakovich gave assurances that he remains a loyal friend to Moldova and will further do his utmost to develop and strengthen the mutually advantageous Moldovan-Belarusian cooperation in the interest of the two countries and peoples.
