ZTE Won UMTS Contract from Turkcell Subsidiary

SHENZHEN, Jul 28, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Chinese telecommunications equipment and network solution provider ZTE Corporation (SZSE: 000063 and SEHK: 0763) won a contract for universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) commercial use from Turkey-based telecom carrier Turkcell.

Under the agreement, ZTE will build 2G/3G network for BeST, the subsidiary of Turkcell. The network, which will adopt ZTE's SDR solution, can support HSPA+ high-speed data business and smooth evolution to LTE. The SDR solution has been widely accepted in the Mainland China, India, and Hong Kong.

The cooperation with ZTE on UMTS network construction can push the company's fast expansion in White Russian mobile communications market, noted an executive for Turkcell.

The contract is ZTE's another importance breakthrough in the European market, said Zhu Jinyun, senior vice president of the Shenzhen-based company.

Turkcell is the first-largest mobile operator in Turkey and also a well-known multinational telecom carrier in the Middle East and Europe, operating networks in Ukraine, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and so on.
