ZTE wins UMTS network contract from Turkish telecom operator

Jul. 30, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China's ZTE Corp<000063><0763>, a leading global provider of telecom equipment and network solutions, recently signed a contract with the Byelorussian Telecommunication Network (BeST) subsidiary of Turkcell, the third-largest European mobile operator, to deploy a UMTS (universal mobile telecommunication system) network in Belarus.

The network will provide high-speed data services and enable a smooth transition to a long term evolution standard, which will enable the company to continue expanding its presence in Belarus by delivering high quality services to the country's mobile subscribers.

Since 2008, ZTE has partnered with some of the world's leading telecom operators to establish UMTS networks. Its partners have included Hong Kong-based CSL Ltd, China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd<600050><0762>, Turkey's AVEA Co and Vietnam's Viettel Mobile Co.

Turkcell is the leading GSM operator in Turkey and had 36.4 million customers as of March 31, 2009.
