Bobruisk Marks Anniversary of City's Liberation

BOBRUISK, Belarus - This week, the Jewish community of Bobruisk held an event on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the city's liberation from the Nazis. The honored guests of the evening were veterans of World War II.

The veterans who were honored were those who had served in the military effort, as well as those who had served in various capacities on the home front. Both groups contributed to the victory and were acknowledged for their participation in the war efforts.

Part of the evening's program included a lively concert featuring the guests' favorite Jewish melodies and songs that were popular during the war years performed by community members. First-hand stories were told by the veterans about their military experiences, and about growing up during those difficult years. The local teens and young people in attendance were enthralled with these personal accounts.

The evening concluded with an informal dessert buffet where Jewish community members of all ages shared stories, as well as opinions and hopes for the future of the Jewish community.

The Jewish community of Bobruisk is a member of the Association of Jewish Communities of Belarus and, by affiliation, the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS.
