President al-Assad to Pay Official Visit to Belarus

President Bashar al-Assad will pay a 2-day official visit to Belarus, during which he will discuss with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and senior officials the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the latest developments in the Middle East and Europe.

Presidents al-Assad and Lukashenko will hold a press conference in which they will sum up their talks. A number of agreements will be signed between Syria and Belarusia in various domains.

President al-Assad will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, Presidential Political and Media Advisor Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban, Minister of Industry Fuad al-Juni, Minister of Economy Lamia Assi, Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam, Deputy Chairman of General Staff Lt. Gen. Munir Adanov and Assistant Foreign Minister Abdul Fattah Ammoura.

Presidents al-Assad and Lukashenko held talks in Damascus in 2003 on developing bilateral relations and the regional and international developments.

The two sides agreed on continuing communication, consultations and following-up the implementation of the signed agreements.

Syria and Belarus signed a document during the 5th session of the Syrian-Belarusian Higher Committee held in Damascus in 2009.

The document contains memos of understanding, executive programs, cooperation plans in the tourist, sports, technical, higher education, businessmen fields and in agricultural, industrial, environmental, transport, housing and local administrational sectors.
