Russia, Belarus settle their gas transit controversy

Gazprom and Beltransgaz have signed a supplement to the contract for Russian gas transit via Belarus. The parties agreed the rate of payment at 1.88 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres per each 100 kilometres. The rate will remain effective until the end of this year. Earlier Gazprom paid Belarus 1.45 dollars. This past Thursday Russia acknowledged its debt to Beltransgaz to the tune of 32 million dollars.

The gas conflict between Russia and Belarus flared up late last month. Minsk's debt for Russian gas deliveries exceeded 190 million dollars since Belarus had unilaterally reduced the contractual price for the fuel. Now the two countries see the controversy as settled.
