Lukashenko closes another newspapep

MINSK, Belarus

Belarus has closed another newspaper, this time a small independent daily that had been printing issues in neighboring Russia.

Minsk officials said they were closing the Denpress Publishing Co., publisher of the Den (Day) newspaper, because it interrupted its commercial activities for six months and failed to explain the fact to tax officials, MosNews reported Tuesday.

Denpress had offices in Minsk and Grodno, near the Polish border, and was a frequent critic of President Alexander Lukashenko.

In the last two years, Lukashenko has closed more than 20 independent newspapers, the Belarus Journalists Association said.
