Abseilers raise cash for Belarus charity

BRAVE Horncastle people took the plunge and abseiled nearly 200ft down the Humber Bridge in aid of charity.

The abseil saw people of all ages take part to help raise money for the Links with Belarus charity which aims to help rebuild the country after it was affected by the worst nuclear disaster ever in 1986.

Chairman Carole Chapman came up with the idea and was then helped to organise it by staff from Old Nicks Tavern, Horncastle.

A total of 83 people took part, consisting of people from Old Nicks Tavern, the LIVES First Responders group, the The Red Cross.

Lisa Ladybird, of Horncastle, raised ?300. She said: "I decided to take part because I always try to do my bit to help people and wanted to overcome my fear of heights."

Other people who took part included six Horncastle scouts, local policeman Duncan Bustin, Batman and Superman - also known as Jamie Armstrong and Duncan O'Dea, and News photographer John Aron.

Although the exact figure raised is not yet known it is hoped to top ?5,000.
