Iran establishes automobile assembly line in Belarus

Tehran, Aug 10, IRNA-Minister of Industries and Mines Alireza Tahmasbi here on Thursday referred to the Samand automobile assembly line established in Belarus as a sign of growing Iran-Belarus bilateral economic and industrial cooperation.

His remarks were made at a meeting with his Belarussian counterpart, Anatoliy Rusetsky, during which he also said that the establishment of the Samand assembly line in Belarus was a major step toward strengthening of bilateral economic and political relations.

Iran welcomes Belarusian cooperation in automobile, van and truck manufacturing as well as road construction machinery, the Iranian minister added.

The Iranian Ministry of Industries and Mines has plans to set up seven or eight Samand assembly lines in different parts of the world specifically in Venezuela, Syria, Senegal, China and Belarus, he said.

Turn-out of Samand automobiles manufactured in Belarus is expected to reach 60,000 per year with the assistance of the Belarussian government, Tahmasbi noted.

For his part, Rusetsky voiced his country's readiness to boost economic and industrial relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, stressing that there was no obstacle in the way of further expansion of Tehran-Minsk all-out cooperation.

The Samand assembly line is very important for the Belarussian government and nation, he added.
