Belarus repays Gazprom two-thirds of its debt - source

MINSK. Aug 6 (Interfax) - Belarus has repaid more than $300 million of its $456-million debt to Gazprom (RTS: GAZP) for gas supplies in the first half of 2007, a source in the Belarusian administration told Interfax.

"On Friday [August 3], another payment was made in addition to the earlier repaid $190 million, which brings the total of repaid debt to more than $300 million," the source said.

On Monday, President of the Belarusian National Bank Pyotr Prokopovich assured the Belarusian president that the debt, which resulted from half-payments to Gazprom for gas supplies in the first half of 2007, would be fully repaid before the end of this week.
