Belarus and Vietnam can do more: President Lukashenko

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that his country is aware of Vietnam's economic potential and is eager to develop the trade and economic relationship between the two nations.

At a meeting with Vietnam's visiting Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh on August 20, President Lukashenko said that the Belarusian-Vietnamese partnership has been developing rapidly.

"Vietnam is a very important country in Southeast Asia for Belarus. It can be a firm foothold for our country in the region as well as Belarus being a foothold in Europe for Vietnam," President Lukashenko was quoted as saying.

President Lukashenko said that he will pay a visit to Vietnam in the next few months.

Two-way trade between Belarus and Vietnam came in at US $49.3 million for 2006, a year-on-year increase of 25%. (VNA)
