Belarusian Social Democratic Party elects new chairman

MINSK. Aug 4 (Interfax) - Alexander Kozulin, who is current serving time in prison, has been replaced as leader of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) by Anatoly Levkovich.

"The party congress elected Anatoly Levkovich, former first deputy party chairman, as the new leader," a party source told Interfax on Monday.

"Fifty-three delegates voted for Levkovich, and 24 were against. Fifty-five delegates supported the proposal to make Kozulin the party's honorary chair. Twenty-two voted against," he said.

On July 13, 2006, the court found Kozulin guilty of a deliberate breach of order. He is serving time in Vitebsk penitentiary.

Kozulin was a presidential candidate in 2006.
