Belarus may increase export of fruits and vegetables

Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, considers that the country has potential to increase export of agricultural products from $2 to $4 bln. At that, fruits and vegetables are principal products for export, reported Ivan Bambiza, the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, in his exclusive interview to the agency Interfax-Zapad.

"In the recent years the Republic has actively expanded sowings of fruits and berries, nearly by 1100-1200 ha. That is very serious export potential, which in the nearest years will influence the export shipments. Demand for these products is very high, the export possibilities are unlimited.

The other main export products are potatoes and vegetables. Earlier, the problem was that we did not have good warehouses allowing conducting pre-selling preparation, sorting, and packaging. To date, we realize the program that will allow putting into operation a storehouse with 109.000 tonnes capacity and make substantial increase in the export of these products", said Bambiza.
