Belarus to export 150,000 tonnes of sugar to Russia in 2010

MOSCOW. Aug 27 (Interfax) - Belarus will keep Russian sugar imports in 2010 at the same level as this year while also increasing exports to other countries, the head of Belgospischeprom, Ivan Danchenko, told journalist.

He said that total imports to Russian, based on earlier signed agreements, would come to 150,000 tonnes this year. Exports next year will remain the same, Danchenko said, adding that this was a largely contracted figure.

Soyuzrossakhar told Interfax that, in accordance with a five-year balance agreement for production and consumption of sugar signed between Russia and Belarus, imports of Belarusian sugar to Russia would come to 150,000 tonnes in 2010.

Danchenko said that Belarus planned to export around 230,000 to countries other than Russian this year, which is a 15% increase from 2008.

He said that, as of September 1, Belarus' sugar plant plan to start processing of sugar beet from the latest harvest. The gross harvest is forecast at 4 million tonnes. "This will allow for 510,000-515,000 tonnes of sugar while entirely meeting domestic market demand and export potential, including our debts to the Russian Federation," Danchenko said.
