Belarus joins CSTO Rapid-Reaction Forces

Belarus will join the Collective Rapid-Reaction Forces (CRRF) of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and even will chair CSTO, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko declared in Sochi.

"They say that Belarus and Uzbekistan allegedly are against these Collective Forces. I reminded President of Russia that our experts elaborated CRRF issues, thus the document will be definitely approved in Belarus. Besides, it is a framework agreement, so there is no reason for fear," Lukashenko added.

Concerning Chairmanship in CSTO he said: "Why to refuse if you are offered this honorable mission? We haven't performed our chairmanship responsibilities for half a year and decided to undertake also the next term."

As Lukashenko did not attend CSTO Moscow summit in June, hence Belarus did not sign the agreement on CRRF SCTO set up. Lukashenko also missed the informal CSTO leaders meeting in July, 2009. The problems in Russia-Belarus relations appeared also as a result of Belarus dairy products supply to Russia, as well as in energy sector.
