Jewish School of Mogilev: Student Population Doubles

MOGILEV, Belarus - The number of students attending the Ohr Avner Jewish School of Mogilev has doubled in comparison to the last year's enrollment figures. This became clear at a festive event marking the beginning of the new school year. The traditional First Bell Party was held inside the school building because of inclement weather. The students and their teachers were pleased to hear warm words from the teaching staff and the city's rabbi Menachem Mendel Alperovich. In addition to traditional wishes addressed to the children, Rabbi Alperovich thanked the Belarus government for giving an opportunity for the Jewish School to exist and to successfully develop. He also expressed gratitude to the President of Ohr Avner Foundation Mr. Lev Leviev for supporting the Jewish school of Mogilev. Then Rabbi Alperovich blew the shofar to symbolize the launch of the new school year.

Among those who participated in the event were the last year's graduates, who have gone on to universities this year. They felt the need to return to their school on this day, they said.
