Sivchik Arrested in Minsk

MINSK -- Riot police in Belarus arrested a fugitive veteran opposition activist on Wednesday, police said.

Vyacheslav Sivchik was one of more than 600 demonstrators jailed in March for taking part in protests against President Alexander Lukashenko.

Police said Sivchik was detained for failing to serve his full 10-day prison sentence. While serving the term, Sivchik was admitted to a hospital, but escaped and fled to Ukraine. (Reuters)
