Ahmadinejad urges NAM enhancement

President Ahmadinejad stresses the important role of Iran, Belarus and Venezuela as active countries in enhancing the Non-Aligned Movement.

In a meeting with Belarusian Foreign Minister, Sergei Martynov, on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement ministerial meeting in Tehran, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad highlighted the expansion of ties between Iran and Belarus.

"Iran and Belarus have valuable experience and capability in economics, industry and energy and can promote cooperation in these areas," the chief executive said.

Ahmadinejad asserted that Iran can boost and deepen its relations with many NAM member states by tackling potential problems.

Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov mentioned Ahmadinejad's recent visit to Minsk, and conveyed a message of appreciation from the Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka regarding Iran's determination to enhance ties with that country.

"The conditions for the expansion of Iran-Belarus ties, especially in the energy sector, have been prepared," Martynov said.

The two-day NAM meeting on human rights opened in Tehran Monday morning.
