ICRC, Defence Ministry of Belarus consider cooperation prospects

Cooperation prospects in the area of the international humanitarian law (IHL) were considered at a meeting between the officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Defence Ministry of Belarus, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian ministry.

While in Belarus the heads of the Armed Forces cooperation programmes Sergei Yeremenko (the Kiev ICRC regional delegation in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova) and Oleg Bondarenko (the Moscow ICRC regional delegation) took part in a session of Belarus' Defence Ministry commission on IHL examination and coverage. The guests got familiar with the implementation of the 2008 cooperation plan between the Armed Forces of Belarus and the ICRC regional delegation in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova on the integration of the international humanitarian law.

Besides, ICRC officials visited the IHL field practice at the 72nd guards united training center for junior officers. They also got acquainted with a special class on IHL standards in the Military Academy.

ICRC officials expressed interest in further cooperation with the Armed Forces of Belarus in transferring the experience in IHL exercising and distribution.
