Belarus: Ministerial Consultations on Consular Issues Held Between Belarus and Latvia

On 11-12 September, the Belarus-Latvia Ministerial Consultations on Consular Issues were held in Minsk.

The Belarusian delegation was led by Andrei Giro, head of the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. The Latvian delegation was headed by Ints Upnatsis, director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. Several officials representing the appropriate state governance bodies of Belarus and Latvia were also in attendance.

During the consultations, the parties approved a draft agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Republic of Latvia on a simplified procedure of reciprocal trips by residents of the near-border territories of the two states as well as a list of settlements located in the near-border territories for the purposes of this agreement.

The parties also reviewed the implementation of the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Republic of Latvia on reciprocal trips of citizens signed on 31 January 2008.

The head of the Latvian delegation had a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valery Voronetsky.
