South Ossetia to ask for permanent observer status in Union of Russiaand Belarus

TSKHINVALI. Sept 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The South Ossetian parliament is working on an address to the Union State of Russia and Belarus asking for permanent observer status in the union.

"The parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia intends to issue an appropriate address, which is already being prepared, to the Union State of Russia and Belarus requesting to be admitted into it. The address contains a request for permanent observer status," South Ossetian Parliament Speaker Znaur Gassiyev told Interfax on Wednesday.

"It is a new stage of development of our state, it is accession to the international scene," said Gassiyev.
