Belarus increased flour production by 9% during first eight months of 2008

During the January-August period of 2008, the businesses of the Bakery Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus produced 447.600 tonnes of flour products, an increase of 9% compared to the same period in 2007.

Belarus produced 266.100 tonnes of wheat flour, up 17.2% compared to January-August period of 2007 and 176.300 tonnes of rye flour (up 0.1%). Production of flour from oats increased by 58.9% to 747 tonnes, flour from barley increased 20 times to 670 tonnes and flour from buckwheat increased by 2.3 times to 21 tonnes. Increasing composite flour production caused the rise of production of flour from cereal crops, according to the department.

During the first eight months of 2008, Belarus produced 260 tonnes of flour with phytoadditions (up 66.7%) and 25 tonnes of high-vitamin flour (up 4.2 times).

The Bakery department owns 16 enterprises for flour production.
