Belarus to increase sowed areas for legumes and oilseed in 2009

In 2009, Belarus plans to increase sowed areas for legumes and oilseed, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

The legumes sowed areas will increase to 158.000 ha, as opposed to 117.700 ha in 2008. Rapeseed sowed areas will rise to 400.000 ha (308.600 ha in 2008), including winter rapeseed to 370.000 ha. Belarus will sow 5.000 ha of soybean each, in Brest and Gomel oblasts, and 3.000 ha of soybean each, in Grodno and Minsk oblasts.
