Let's Hope It's Not Hasta La Vista This Time - As Belarus Starts Selection for Eurovision 2009!

BELARUSIAN TV bosses have launched the search for the singer/group to represent the nation at the 2009 Eurovision.

The Belarusian national broadcaster BTRC has begun its quest to initially find a national winner, who will subsequently go on to the semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest in in Moscow next May.

According to eurovision.tv applications will be accepted until November 20. A national semi-final will take place in mid-December and the winning song and artiste will be known following the final next January.

Since 2007, the Belarusian entries for the Eurovision Song Contest have been selected in the national project EuroFest, which according to TV bosses is considered a big success in terms of viewing figures and helps provide a major stepping stone for young artists willing to showcase their musical skills.

The singers must be citizens or permanent residents of Belarus, and songwriters of any national background can send in their applications to take part in the EuroFest before the November deadline.

Subsequently, a jury will choose 15 entries to be presented in the semi-final which will be broadcast live. At that stage two or three entries will be selected for the final by a combination of TV viewers and jury voting.

In May Belarus came 17th in the semi-final of Eurovision in Belgrade with Hasta La Vista and Ruslan Alehno, and the public will be hoping for better things in Moscow in 2009.
