Representatives of Lithuanian Armed Forces will observe "Zapad 2009" war-games in Belarus

On September 28-29 two representatives of Lithuanian Armed Forces will observe the active phase of strategic military exercise "Zapad 2009" held in Belarus.

Along with Lithuanians Belarus has invited observers from other neighbours - Latvia, Poland and Ukraine - to attend the event.

Joint Russian-Belarusian exercise "Zapad 2009" began in Belarus on September 18. It is the largest military exercise held in the territory of Belarus in the last 20 years. More than 12 thousand of military personnel and equipment - tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery, helicopters, fighter-jets - will be involved in the event. The exercise is conducted in 7 military grounds of Belarus: Borisov, Brest, Gozan, Domanov, Neman, Obuz-Lesnovsky, Ruzhany.
