"We need to create a new union of the republics," of Venezuela and Belarus, President Hugo Chavez said after his meeting with Belarusian President, Alexander Lukashenko in the capital of the former Soviet republic
President Hugo Chavez proposed on Wednesday in Minsk to Belarusian President, Alexander Lukashenko, to unite the two countries in a "new union of republics," as a proof of their excellent relations.
"We need to create a new union of the republics," of Venezuela and Belarus, Chavez said after his meeting with Lukashenko in the capital of the former Soviet republic, AFP reported.
"There will not be a union of Socialist republics (such as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, USSR)." "It will be free republics united in a union," Chavez said, as quoted by the Belarusian presidency's press office.
For his part, Lukashenko said he plans to travel to Venezuela to deepen a bilateral cooperation that has developed so strongly.
