Belarus to harvest 8.9 mln tonnes of grains

In 2009, the general production volumes of grains and leguminous plants (without maize) in Belarus in all varieties of agricultural economies will total nearly 8.9 mln tonnes, declared the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

As of September 7, all varieties of agricultural economies in Belarus produced 8.87 mln tonnes of grains as opposed to 9.27 mln tonnes on the same date of the previous year. Directly, agricultural organizations harvested 8.41 mln tonnes.

According to data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, as of September 7, agricultural organizations harvested grains throughout 98.2% of the planned areas, private farm holdings - 82.1%, farm areas - 88.2%.

The average yield of grains and leguminous plants in Belarus in agricultural organizations totaled 37.2 c/ha as opposed to 38.9 c/ha in 2008.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the country will start maize harvesting campaign in the nearest future.

In the current year, the country decreased grain production by nearly 280 thsd tonnes compared to the previous year, stated Vladimir Grakun, the head of the main department of plant growing of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus. Previously, Belarus planned to harvest 9.4 mln tonnes of grains, but unfavorable weather conditions prevented to realization of such plans.
