Senukai subsidiary OMA builds first modern DIY-store in Belarus

Belarus - A new store is now being constructed in Minsk for OMA, the Belarusian subsidiary of Rautakesko's subsidiary Senukai. Construction began yesterday for the 8,500 sq m store in the Belarusian capital, which will be the country's first modern-built DIY store, and will be completed in the middle of 2010.

Minsk has a population of 1.8 million inhabitants. The residential housing sector continues to grow with demand for DIY rising. The entire building and home improvement market in Belarus totals some ?1.3 billion, of which OMA's market share of 5% shows significant further potential.

"The start of construction of our new store is a strong indication that the Belarusian retail market is developing towards western standards and provides a positive sign to the inhabitants of Minsk that new retail concepts and products are reaching them", says Mikhail Khomichenok, Managing Director of OMA.

The concept and fit-out of the new store in Minsk is being implemented in close co-operation with Senukai; the development and financing of the project are managed by Senukai's real estate service provider in the region, Zabolis Partners.
