Minsk won over Russia & Malta's bids

Next year's edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Minsk. The official statement was made by the European Broadcasting Union. The show will take place in the Belarussian capital, Minsk on November 20, 2010. Ukraine will host this year's Junior Eurovision in Kyiv.

Belarus was not the only potential candidate. Several countries showed interest in hosting the contest, however after the first hearings of the EBU Supervisory Council, three potential candidates were chosen. Apart from Belarus, the other two potential countries in hosting next year's contest were Russian and Malta.

The candidates demonstrated their presentation at the following meeting of the EBU Supervisory Council in Kiev, held on June 5. Taking into account the success of adult Eurovision-2009, Russia was considered to be the favorite. Yet, the ideas presented by Belteleradiocompany at the presentation, were so convincing that Belarus was selected to host Junior Eurovision 2010. The show will take place in Minsk Arena.

Among the advantages of the Belarusian application was that all moments of foreign guests' staying in Minsk were specified and described. The recreational program for young performers is already fixed. They will attend a circus show, meet the Belarusian Father Frost. The jury also pointed to the unique design of the scene, big capacity of the arena (about 15,000 viewers) and slogan of the contest ("Feel the magic").

The children will be able to plunge into the atmosphere of fairy tale a month before Christmas. Banners with pictures of the participants will be exhibited on the main drag of the Belarusian citizens and towns and their videos will be demonstrated on the screens of Belteleradiocompany in Minsk so that the artists felt themselves true stars. A performer, who will give a master-class for junior singers, will be chosen soon. Among the candidates are Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake and other stars.

The executive producer of Eurovision Svante Stokselius charged Belteleradiocompany with forming a crew and choosing the executive producer of the contest. Experienced companies that have already served other Eurovision contests will be invited to Minsk for shooting, installing the illumination and other technical aspects of the contest. Belteleradiocompany has already received applications from potential sponsors. Their aid will allow inviting a record high number of participants (20-25). Belteleradiocompany applied for the contest Junior Eurovision 2009, but that time the EBU voted for Ukraine.
