Chavez encouraged Lukashenko before election: "Come on, man, be strong..."

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez expressed support for his Belarusian counterpart Alyaksandr Lukashenko before the presidential election in Belarus on a live national television. According to the Venezuelan leader, it's necessary for the people of Belarus and Venezuela to re-elected the current head of the Belarusian State.

"I have just read, Alyaksandr, that you are going to the polls anew. Go in and win, Alyaksandr! Once and for all," Chavez exclaimed, referring to the president of Belarus, foreign media reported.

"Come on, man, be strong, keep them (the opposition), away from power, as well as here in Venezuela", ITAR-TASS quotes the president of Venezuela.

As the Venezuelan leader explained, Alyaksandr Lukashenko's re-election is necessary because "we must preserve the independence and unity between us."

"Belarus is what has remained of the glorious Soviet Union," Hugo Chavez summed up.

Belarus has set December 19 as the Presidential Election Day.
