Ashgabat, Minsk reach agreement to intensify economic relations

Turkmenistan and Belarus have reached an agreement to "intensify fruitful partnership" in the areas of trade, economics, agriculture, chemicals, refining, transport, communication and several other fields, the Turkmen government has said.

The statement was made during a meeting between Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and Viktor Sheiman, assistant to the President of Belarus for Special Affairs.

Sheiman conveyed greetings from Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, who wished prosperity and well-being on the people of Turkmenistan, during the meeting.

"Belarus is very interested in the further establishment of fruitful cooperation with Turkmenistan, which has substantially increased in recent years" Sheiman said.

Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan seeks the development of traditionally friendly relations with Belarus and an expansion of the promising and mutually beneficial partnership between the nations.

A joint project to construct a mining and processing plant for the production of potassium fertilizers in the Lebap region was discussed during the meeting.

Sheiman confirmed the willingness of Belarus to prepare highly qualified specialists for Turkmenistan.
