Belarus' deputy PM sees mobile user base up to 8 mln by 2010

MINSK, Oct 27 (Prime-Tass) -- The mobile services subscriber base in Belarus is expected to increase to 8 million by 2010 from the current 5.5 million, Viktor Burya, deputy prime minister, told the parliament Friday.

Belarus? mobile market is split among Mobile Digital Communications (MDC), MTS Belarus, Belarus Telecommunications Network, or BeST, and BelCel. The first three operate GSM networks, while BelCel operates an IMT-MC-450, or CDMA2000, network.

As of October 1, Belarus had 3.3 million fixed lines, including 2.8 million residential fixed lines, Burya said.

Belarus' population is just under 10 million people and is declining.
