Belarus, Syria partner against crime

Minsk - Syria and Belarus have signed an agreement for mutual cooperation in the field of fighting and preventing crime with all its forms.

The agreement was signed by Syrian Minister of Interior General Bassam Abelmajid and his Belarusian counterpart General Vladimir Naumov, in Minsk earlier this week.

The agreement makes provision for co-operation in fighting crimes committed in either of the countries, particularly crimes threatening the lives of individuals, international organised crime, terrorism, smuggling, money laundering, tax evasion, illegal immigration, and manufacture and trafficking of illegal drugs.

The agreement also stipulates for cooperation in the field of training and qualification by organising mutual training courses and exchanging expertise, legislations, legal information and academic and literary works that benefit both sides.

In a statement to the press after signing the agreement, General Abdelmajid stressed the importance of the agreement in organising work between the ministries of interior in the two countries.

He also expressed hope that the agreement will be a starting point for strengthening future cooperation on all levels.

For his part, General Naumov affirmed his country's desire to strengthen cooperation with Syria in political, economic and cultural fields, expressing his confidence that relations will continue to develop to benefit the people of the two countries.

The Syrian and Belarusian sides discussed future cooperation in fields of common interest. The Syrian delegation also toured the headquarters and facilities attached to the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs. - BuaNews-SANA
