Union State of Russia and Belarus ministers to meet

RBC, 19.10.2007, Moscow 09:34:21.Russia's Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov is expected to take part in the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Russia and Belarus in Minsk. According to the government's press office, Zubkov will hold bilateral talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky. The parties are expected to handle pressing trade and economic issues.

According to a source in the Russian government, the parties are likely to raise the issue of gas supplies to Belarus. The agenda of the Council of Ministers includes some 16 issues, including the Union State's budget, results of trade and economic cooperation in the first half of 2007 and plans to bring the legal systems of the two states closer. They also plan to discuss an intergovernmental agreement to launch joint pharmaceuticals production, and consider the development of new programs aimed at improving the defense infrastructure.
