Russia, Belarus Consider Interstate Union

Dushambe, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) Presidents Vladimir Putin (Russia) and Alexander Lukashenko (Belarus) met Friday at the presidential summit of the Community of Independent States and are considering whether to set up an interstate union between the two countries.

Both statesmen will trade views on the structure of the future Unified State whose creation was encouraged over a decade ago, but confronted tough barriers like socio-economic integration.

The intergovernmental meeting was postponed to October 19 when both will approve the 2008 budget.
