Belarus' CEC registers Council of Republic's new convocation

The Central Election Commission of Belarus registered the members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the fourth convocation on October 14, BelTA informs.

The elections took place at the sessions of the Councils of Deputies of the basic level on October 3-10. The Council of the Republic of the fourth convocation includes 55 parliamentarians.

The CEC officials said that the local councils of deputies held their sessions at high organisational level and fully observed all necessary procedures.

There are 64 parliamentary seats in the Council of the Republic. Every oblast and the city of Minsk nominate eight candidates each. Eight more members of the Council of the Republic are nominated by the President.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina said that to date the city of Minsk has elected only seven senators as one of the nominees has withdrawn his candidature.

On October 14, the CEC took a decision to set the repeat elections of the eighth senator from Minsk during the period October 15-November 25.
