Belarus: prices for food increased by 9.5 %

According to data of the National Statistics Committee, during January-September 2008, prices for food products increased by 9.5 % as compared to December of 2007, reported IA "Interfax-Zapad".

According to data of the Committee, in September of the current year, prices for canned vegetables increased by 1.1-1.5 % as compared to August. Prices for wine increased by 3.1-4.1 %.

Prices for potatoes decreased by 13.9 %, onion - by 11.1 %, beet - by 15.9 %, peppers - by 16.3 %, carrot - by 17.4 %. Prices for fresh cabbage increased by 9.7 %, spring onion - 37.2 %, fresh tomatoes - 40.1 %, fresh cucumbers - by 2.6 times.

Prices for apples decreased by 8.6 %, grapes - by 13 %, melons and grounds - by 17.4 %. Prices for bananas increased by 2.8%.

In the end of September, the average price for fresh cabbage totaled 0.22 euro/kg, for onion - 0.49 euro/kg, for beet - 0.32 euro/kg, for potatoes - 0.27 euro/kg.

In September, 2008, prices for food increased by 1.8% as compared to August of 2008. According to data of the Committee, rise in prices for food products in September of the current year as compared to the previous month caused growth of summary consumer price index by 0.9%.
