Lukashenko Sees Russia As Leader of Integration Processes in Post- Soviet Space

MINSK. Oct 20 (Interfax) - Russia should play the principal role in the development of integration processes in the post-Soviet space, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"There will be no integration, except for a slowly moving process, until Russia makes a sharp turn and begins to position it as a center," Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko told journalists in Minsk on Monday.

"It seems that nothing hinders economic cooperation and the lifting of various barriers," the president said.

"Everybody says in front of journalists that this should be done, but when we approach certain decisions, economic cooperation turns out to be bad for someone," the president said.

"Georgia left the CIS. Ukraine has something on its mind. And why do they leave so easily? This is because little keeps them. And one needs many things that will keep [countries] in the CIS and EurAsEC," Lukashenko said.

"Primarily Russia and Belarus that head this integration should do this," he said.

"We do not push anyone off: go faster. But there are states that do not want to move fast and make the decision, which we made together with the Russians. One should not mill about," the president said.

"Too many people who either do not remember or remember the past badly have appeared" on the post-Soviet territories, he said.

"The thing is about personalities," Lukashenko added.
