Belarus takes measures for speeding-up of maize harvesting

Farmings and agricultural enterprises of Belarus take measures for speeding-up the rates of maize harvesting: engaging of additional harvesting equipment, prolongation of shifts, according to the Main plant growing department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus.

As of October 20, the agrarians harvested 43.000 ha of maize at grain technology or 27% of planned areas, as opposed to 74% on the same date of the previous year. But last year maize sowed areas totaled 100.000 ha, this year the territory totals 154.000 ha.

The maize crop totaled 264.000 tonnes with an average yield of 62 c/ha as opposed to 479.000 tonnes with 64.9 c/ha on the same date in 2007.

According to the Ministry, the work is restrained by unfavorable weather and lack of fuel.
