Belarus, Poland exchange experience in combating illegal drug manufacturing

Last year seven clandestine laboratories manufacturing synthetic drugs were discovered in Belarus and one similar site was disclosed in Poland, the chief of the drug control department and counteracting human trafficking of the criminal police of the Interior Ministry of Belarus, Alexander Gavrilov, said before the seminar "Discovering and closing down of clandestine laboratories manufacturing illegal drugs." Attending the seminar are Belarusian and Polish experts, informs BelTA.

According to Alexander Gavrilov, Belarusian law-enforcement bodies have long been cooperating with Polish colleagues in counteracting drug spread. Drugs of vegetable origin are more popular in Belarus. The spread of synthetic drugs also causes concern as they are mainly distributed at discotheques. In this respect the Polish experience of combating drug distribution is very useful, he said.

Waldemar Krawczyk, expert of the central investigative bureau of the Main Police of Poland, said that in the course of the international seminar "we are going to exchange the experience in discovering and closing down clandestine laboratories manufacturing illegal drugs". In his words, the Polish law-enforcement bodies turn close attention to the distribution of drugs at discotheques and are ready to share their experience in this area with the Belarusian colleagues.

The seminar "Discovering and closing down of clandestine laboratories manufacturing illegal drugs" is part of the EU and UN Development Programme project "Belarus-Ukraine-Moldova programme on combating illicit drugs turnover and trade". The project is financed by the European Union.
