Minsk Hopes for U.S. Consent for Belarus' Wto Entry
MINSK. Oct 22 (Interfax) - The Belarusian Foreign Ministry hopes to receive positive signals regarding the prospects of the country's admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO) from the United States in the near future, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Yevdochenko told journalists in Minsk on Wednesday.
"The European Commission has given us the green light to hold bilateral and multilateral negotiations on Belarus' entry into the WTO. We are now awaiting signals from the U.S. as to the status of our relations," he said.
The authorities in Minsk hope that "these steps will allow us to take part in a session of the WTO's multilateral common group in Geneva in December 2008 or in early 2009," Yevdochenko said.
