Polish companies ready to invest up to EUR 200mn in Belarusian economy

Polish companies are ready to invest up to EUR 200 million in the Belarusian economy. The Embassy of Belarus in Poland has started assisting ten investment projects launched by Polish companies, the chief of the trade and economic service of the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Warsaw, Alexander Averyanov, told BelTA.

"These are large firms that are interested in investing in Belarus and that have serious intentions," the diplomat said. They are interested in power engineering, production of construction materials, footwear, sanitary ware and other import-substituting products. "We have recently seen an increased interest of Polish companies and businessmen in Belarus and this relates to almost all industries," Alexander Averyanov said. In his words, Polish businessmen have gained a rich experience of working in European markets, which they can apply in the Belarusian market.

According to Alexander Averyanov, one of the most promising areas of cooperation is power engineering. The interest in cooperation is mutual. Poland is interested in exporting its coal, Belarus in diversifying energy sources. "Cooperation is not limited to coal supplies. Our cooperation with the Polish side has long-standing roots: we exported electricity to Poland back in the times of the Soviet Union," Alexander Averyanov said. Today Belarus exports electricity generated by the Bereza state district power plant to the Lublin province. Other ways of supplying or exchanging electricity are being considered.

One of the goals of the trade and economic service of the Belarusian Embassy in Warsaw is to diversify Belarusian exports to Poland. A positive tendency has been seen lately. For example, at the recent Polagra-Food Exhibition in Poznan the vodka by Belarus' Minsk-Kristall distillery won a gold medal. Its exclusive importer is big Polish J&J Decor company. A company is now being created at J&J Decor to handle the supplies of Belarusian foodstuffs to the Polish market.
