Alexy II: Belarus does a lot to preserve Orthodox unity

Belarus has done a lot to preserve the unity among the Orthodox countries, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II said after the service in the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk on October 24, reported Belta.

"Our mission is to preserve and promote the religious unity as a great gift despite any temptations and trials," Patriarch Alexy II said.

In his words, there are some forces who would like to weaken the influence of the Russian Orthodox Church in the three eastern countries. The celebration of the 1020th anniversary of Baptism of Rus that took place in Moscow and Kiev and being currently held in Minsk confirms the wish of people to remain in the fold of the united Russian Orthodox Church.
