Belarus will be guided by pragmatic interests in choosing company to construct nuclear plant

Belarus will be guided by pragmatic interests in choosing a company to construct a nuclear power plant, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in a meeting with top management of the Chinese Guangdong Nuclear Energy Corporation on October 28, reported BELTA.

"This is a very serious project. The safety of a nuclear plant in the centre of Europe means international responsibility before partners and neighbours," the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko repeatedly stressed that the preference will be given to the safest, inexpensive and high-quality project. "We will hold a fair tender. If your corporation offers more preferential terms and undertakes to build a nuclear plant which safety will meet all international standards, which is inexpensive and of high quality, then you will win. If another company offers better variants, then, naturally, it will be the winner," the President said addressing the guests from China.

The Belarusian leader praised the experience of the corporation in the construction of nuclear plants. "In China you build nuclear plants, you have gained certain experience, you cooperate with the world's biggest companies, you design and construct nuclear plants. All this stands high and we take this into account," the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko reminded, that in due time he instructed the government to offer all international companies having appropriate experience to take part in a tender to construct a nuclear power plant in Belarus. Such invitations have been sent to the US-Japan, French-German, Russian companies and to the Chinese Guangdong Nuclear Energy Corporation.
