Belarus has possibilities to double gas transit, director of the energy efficiency department says
Belarus has enough possibilities to double the transit of natural gas outside the country, deputy head of the Belarus State Standardization Committee - director of the energy efficiency department Leonid Shenets noted during the regional seminar dedicated to the energy efficiency in Central and Eastern Europe, reported Belta.
"Belarus has enough possibilities to increase the transit of natural gas outside the country by almost 100%," the official said.
According to Leonid Shenets, an increase in energy efficiency and the use of alternative renewable energy resources is an important factor of the stable development of any state. Belarus has not enough fuel and power resources. It imports about 80% of the necessary power resources. "It makes the economy of the country exposed to fluctuation of prices for them. So, the efficient use of the fuel and power resources is an extremely important factor of the economic development of Belarus," Leonid Shenets said.
For the recent five years, the energy consumption of the Belarusian economy has downed by 25.3%. Just last year, the Government adopted three decrees dealing with the energy efficiency. "We have to develop energy efficient technologies, to use international experience and attract investments actively," Leonid Shenets highlighted.
