I got impression that our countries have much in common: Belarus parliamentary official

Day.Az interview with Deputy Chief of Belarus parliament's Working Group for Cooperation with Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) Maria Biryukova.

Day.Az: How do you evaluate current development of relation between Belarus and Azerbaijan as Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Belarus National Assembly House of Representatives for International Affairs and Relations with the CIS?

Maria Biryukova: The Belarusian people has deep respect and sympathy to Azerbaijan and its hardworking and friendly people who seeks to live in peace and harmony with all peoples of the world. Even the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi said in the 12th century: "Do benefit yourself and your native home in a way not to harm your friend."

Our two countries have no differences and unsolvable problems. All emerging issues we discuss and address in a spirit of mutual understanding taking into account each other's interests, looking for new opportunities to enhance bilateral relations. They are always based on the good traditions of friendship, mutual respect and trust. We provide mutual support within international organizations. Our approaches and views coincide on all relevant issues on the global agenda.

The presidents of our countries have a vital role in contacts between Belarus and Azerbaijan actively maintained in all areas of common interest.

Q: How would you describe joint work of the two parliaments?

A: Inter-parliamentary ties are very productive. Agreement on Cooperation between the National Assembly of Belarus and the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan signed during the recent visit of Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation headed by Speaker Ogtay Asadov is an important step in the further development of political dialogue between our countries.

Q: You made a trip to Azerbaijan this year. What is impression about the country?

A: The Republic of Azerbaijan is bright and original land. Modern technology and ancient culture exist in harmony in the country. The Republic of Belarus respects significant achievements that we have witnessed in all spheres of life in your country. I made it sure once again when I visited Azerbaijan in March this year to observe national referendum on amending the Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic as a representative of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

I got impression that our countries have much in common: Both Belarus and Azerbaijan are countries with fast growing economies. Social issues, people's welfare are indisputable priority and purpose of the economic reforms. Religious tolerance and the wise solutions to the inter-ethnic issues are inherent in both countries. Our people are peace-loving, talented and optimistic about the future.
