Russian observers to give their opinion of Belarus polls

MOSCOW, October 4 (Itar-Tass) - Russian observers will give their own opinion of Belarus' presidential elections, a Kremlin official told Itar-Tass on Monday. "The Russian observers' work will become the most adequate evaluation of the election of the Belarusian president," he said.

Belarus will go to the polls on December 19. The republic's Central Election Commission registered 17 groups to promote candidates, including the group supporting incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko. The collection of signatures in support of the hopefuls will take place in the period from September 30 to October 29.

Lukashenko has led Belarus since 1994.
