Belarus, Iran discuss opening Iranian bank in Minsk

Bank MasterIran has proposed the establishment of a 100 percent Iranian bank in Minsk, Belarus, noted the chairman of Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines, Alinaqi Khamushi.

Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov and Iranian officials have discussed the possibility of opening a bank with 100% Iranian capital in Belarus to boost cooperation between the two countries, the Persian service of ILNA reported.

Both Belarus and Iran believe a 100% Iranian bank will facilitate payments and give an impetus to trade between Belarus and Iran.

Following an official visit of Belarusian Foreign Minister and accompanying delegation to Iran on October 21-24, 2006, the East European republic's delegation met with Khamushi. The two sides also decided on establishing a joint business cooperation council on the basis of the chambers of commerce of the two countries.

The council will aim at coordination of efforts of the chambers of commerce and provide assistance to businesses of the two countries.
